Full Eye Health and Vision Examinations
According to the American Optometric Association, it is recommended that you undergo a yearly eye exam to detect harmful conditions and maintain eye health. Extensive amount of research has concluded that early detection and prevention is essential to treatment of disease. We provide our patients with comprehensive eye health and vision examinations to ensure that their eyes perform up to the demands of their profession and academic pursuits. By having regular examinations, we are able to observe changes from year to year and catch signs of abnormalities early on.
A comprehensive eye examination goes beyond 20/20, a term that means you can see letters on a standard eye chart. Healthy vision is so much more than 20/20. We focus on prevention of eye disease by detecting signs of abnormality early on when conditions are still treatable. During your eye exam, we will perform evaluations to assess nearsightedness, farsightedness, eye teaming and coordination skills, as well as signs of threatening conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetes and hypertension. Throughout your exam we will clearly explain the tests performed and the doctor will go over the results with you to ensure you have a complete understanding of your current eye health and vision needs.
Contact Lens Exam:
Contact lenses are a great alternative to glasses. We carry a wide variety of lenses and the doctor with discuss and fit the most appropriate lens to meet your comfort and vision needs. If you're a contact-lens-wearer or are requesting to wear them for the first time, additional testing is necessary to ensure you are a good candidate or to check the continuing health and condition of your eyes. Because the eyes of an adult change over time, it is essential to update your contact lens measurements to ensure healthy eyes at your annual exam.
Dry Eye Management
Dry Eye Syndrome (DES) is a disease of the tears and surface of the eye. It occurs when the eyes do not produce enough tears or when the tears do not have the right composition. Dry eye is very common in our population and the prevalence increases with age as tear production slows, changing the composition of the tears. Common causes of DES include: medications, hormones, medical conditions, seasonal allergies, enviromental conditions such as poor air quality, low humidity, AC, infrequent blinking from starring at computer screens or TV, long-term contact lens wear. The symptoms of DES are: burning, red eyes, dry, gritty sensation, itch, eye pain, irritation, stringy eye discharge, blurred vision, light sensitivity, eye fatigue or heavy eyelids, discomfort with contact lens wear.
